5 DAY KATHMANDU VALLEY BIKING TOUR

We ride through a beautiful lush green jungle to a hilltop, from where the surrounding mountains can be seen (weather permitting). We then pass by a nunnery and continue riding through the thick jungle of Shivapuri towards Nagarkot. Following this, we go to an ancient Newari town and re-enter the valley through the high Lubhu Pass.

DAY 1. Kathmandu -Kakani (31KM)
Soon after breakfast we leave from our office courtyard through the bustling back streets of Thamel and continue onto good, wide, undulating jeep tracks into the jungle. Our efforts are rewarded by spectacular mountain views of the Ranipauwa - including Manasly (8163m) - and visit the typical Tamang village and climb the serious and challenging slopes to Kakani. We camp at a reserve at 2,000m where we will enjoy the stunning views of Ganesh Himal and Langtang, Lirung and the valley view of Likhu Khola 1,000m below.

DAY 2: Kakkani-Nagi Gompa(31KM)
Today we head off along one of the best single tracks in the valley down towards Budhanilkantha, a holy Hindu site where we will see Lord Vishnu sleeping on a bed of snakes. Following around the valley rim, we ascend single-track to the dense forest of Shivapuri Reserve leading towards Nagi Gompa, a Buddhist nunnery. We camp close by the premises and spend enough time to absorb the Tibetan culture here and observe the evening Puja.

DAY 3: Nagi Gompa to Nagarkot(34KM)
This is a challenging day! We pedal through the dense jungle of Shivapuri National Park and to the Helambu trekking trail. We then ride down into the north-east corner of the valley head onto a mix of single- lane and jeep track to wind our way to Nagarkot. Our precise route will depend on the condition of the trails. A short steep climb up to Nagarkot will be rewarded by the comfort and peaceful surroundings of the hotel where we spent the night. (This is where part of the biking movie 'Retread' was filmed.)

DAY 4: Nagarkot-Dhulikhel via Nala
After an early morning breakfast, we will have two possible options for our descent: the one is to ride downhill on a paved road to Bhaktapur and then to Nala ; the other is to ride uphill to Nagarkot and to view the Tower and then follow a technically steep decline to Nala towards Dhulikhel. Overnight in hotel (ADD: in Dhulikhel,/ near Dhulikhel,/ in the surrounding area )

DAY 5: Dhulikhel to Kathmandu VIA Lubhu Sisneri
we ride on a jeep track to the ancient city of Panauti, where Lord Buddha once lived as a prince. This special village-truly lost in time-is rarely visited by tourists. The Indreswor Mahadev Temple in Panauti is the oldest surviving temple in Nepal, believed to have been constructed in 1294A.D. Climbing west, we follow a jeep track along the meandering Roshi River. Beyond the town of Madhuban, we enter a narrow pristine valley ascending 300m on a superb trail to reach the summit of Kathmandu Valley's eastern rim known as Lakhuri Bhanjyang. This is probably the oldest route to the east out of Kathmandu Valley, connecting the ancient cities of the valley with Panauti. A difficult climb but the Himalayan views more than compensate. The descent is on switch-backed jeep track. After an hour - a 500m descent - we come to Sisneri, a quiet valley village. The ethnic groups change as we descend from Tamangs, Thakuries and Chhetris to lowland Newari farmers. We then cycle the last part of our journey from Sisneri to Kathmandu city, making a quick round-about through Patan’s Durbar Square.
